Protogonos

Magnificent first from the seed, hear self act through Self.

Dimerous, from the egg, tauriform with leonine vociferation conveyed throughout the air.

The splendour of Self's golden wings.

From Self, Gods and mortals appear.

Erikapaios, the celebrated intelligible intellect, ineffable and concealed.

Through Self, purge the panorama from dark mists and radiate holy splendour.

Phanes, with extended turning pinions, 

Synonymous with the entire exalted firmament,

Priapos, splendour of the dark eye, self calls.

Many-seeded, all-foreseeing, eudaimon sovereign, 

Delight in this devout initiation rite and radiate propitiously.

For this initiation, I have turned to paraphrase, seeking once more to recapture the spiritual path; yet in doing so, the original hexameter and later rhyme have fallen away. The dramatic intensity of a Homeric narrative style has also been softened, as I believe these changes better capture the essence of the original Orphic initiations.
